Embracing the Power of the Holy Spirit
As followers of Jesus, we’re faced with a crucial decision: will we yield to our sinful nature or allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives? In Galatians 5:16, Paul reminds us that walking in the Spirit is the key to overcoming the desires of the flesh.
The Dangers of Following Our Hearts
Left to our own devices, we’ll naturally follow our heart’s sinful inclinations, leading to destructive behavior and forfeiting our heavenly inheritance. But there’s hope! As believers, we don’t have to succumb to our natural tendencies.
The Fruit of the Spirit
When the Holy Spirit directs our decisions, our character will reflect love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This is the fruit of a life surrendered to the Spirit.
Surrendering to the Holy Spirit
So, how do we allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives? Paul urges us to “keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:24). This means submitting to the Spirit’s influence, allowing Him to refine, correct, and discipline us. Real freedom is found in surrendering control to the Lord.
A Prayer for Surrender
Father, I want to keep in step with your Holy Spirit, with you in charge of my life. Search my heart, correct me, and bring me into alignment with your heart and will. Thank you that as Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Amen.
Breaking Free from the Flesh
By surrendering to the Holy Spirit, we can break free from the bondage of our sinful nature and live a life that honors God. Will you join the fight for freedom today?
