Unlikely Heroes: The Power of Surrender
When we think of great leaders, we often imagine confident, charismatic figures who inspire and motivate others. But what if I told you that one of the greatest leaders in biblical history was initially hesitant and insecure? Moses, the man who freed the Israelites from Egyptian slavery, was called by God despite his numerous excuses and objections.
A Reluctant Leader
Moses’ conversation with God is a familiar one. “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh?” he asked. “How can I lead the Israelites out of Egypt?” “They won’t believe me.” “I’m clumsy with my words.” “Please, send someone else.” These words resonate with us because they reflect our own fears and doubts. Yet, despite Moses’ feeble beginning, God transformed him into a powerful leader.
God’s Strategy
This is not an isolated incident. Throughout history, God has chosen ordinary, fallible people to accomplish extraordinary things. It’s not about our natural abilities or strengths; it’s about our willingness to surrender to a great God. The Old Testament is filled with examples of unlikely heroes who, despite their insecurities, were used by God to achieve great things.
The Power of Surrender
So, what’s holding you back from being used by God? Is it a natural ability, a habit, or an excuse? Whatever it is, God wants you to surrender it to Him. The story of Moses’ staff is a powerful reminder of this principle. Moses had to let go of what he was leaning on – his trusty staff – and give it to God. When he did, God turned it into a serpent, and later, back into a staff. This act of surrender marked the beginning of a miracle.
What’s in Your Hand?
What have you been holding onto all these years? Is it a natural talent, a security blanket, or an excuse? Whatever it is, God wants you to throw it down and surrender it to Him. It may turn into something scary, but that’s where the miracle begins. Will you take the first step and surrender what’s in your hand?
