The Power of Truth-Telling in Love
As followers of Christ, we’re called to share the Good News with others, but it’s not always easy. Sometimes, our words can touch a raw nerve, evoking a strong reaction from those who aren’t ready to hear the truth.
A Dentist’s Insight
Dr. Wendy, a dentist, knows a thing or two about touching raw nerves. In her profession, she’s accustomed to patients’ reactions when she treats an infected tooth or gum. The process may be uncomfortable, but it’s necessary for healing to take place. What struck her as surprising, however, was how her patients responded when she shared her faith with them. Her words, like a gentle probe, would sometimes strike a nerve, revealing a deeper issue.
Speaking Truth in Love
Dr. Wendy learned a valuable lesson that we can all apply to our lives: it’s not our responsibility to change someone’s heart. Our role is to speak the truth in love, without sugarcoating or watering down the message. We must focus on what people need to hear, rather than what they want to hear. And then, we must trust God to do the rest. After all, He is the ultimate Healer, the One who can cleanse the infection of sin from our lives.
Letting Go of the Outcome
When we share the Gospel with others, we can’t control how they respond. We may face rejection, anger, or even tears. But that’s not our concern. Our task is to be faithful messengers, speaking the truth in love, and leaving the outcome in God’s capable hands. As we do, we can trust that He will work in the hearts of those we’ve shared with, bringing healing and transformation in His time.
