Serving Others, Serving Christ
At the heart of Christianity lies a simple yet powerful commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12). This selfless act of love is what sets us apart as followers of Christ. For Christian recording artist Derick Thompson, this commandment became a lived-out reality during his junior year of college.
A Life-Changing Invitation
When an elderly couple, Bob and Bev, needed assistance with daily tasks, they extended an invitation to Derick to move into their upstairs apartment. What seemed like a practical solution turned out to be a divine appointment. Bev, though familiar with Jesus, struggled with a weak faith, while Bob had no personal relationship with God and was battling cancer. Yet, as Derick served them with kindness and compassion, they caught a glimpse of God’s love through his actions.
A Global Impact
Derick’s band, STRIVE, was soon invited by Campus Crusade for Christ to participate in a short-term project in Russia. This trip aimed to raise awareness about AIDS and share the love of Christ with the Russian people. Even as Derick ministered abroad, he continued to pray for Bob and Bev back home. And then, the unthinkable happened – Bob surrendered his life to Christ, and Bev rededicated hers!
The Ripple Effect of Service
This remarkable story illustrates the transformative power of serving others. When we choose to love and serve those around us, we become vessels of God’s love, revealing His character to a watching world. As we demonstrate Christ’s love in tangible ways, we open doors for others to experience His presence.
A Call to Action
So, dear friend, what can you do today to serve Christ by serving others? How can you share God’s love in practical, life-changing ways? As you reflect on these questions, remember that even the smallest acts of service can have eternal consequences.
