Reflecting the Divine: A New Family Resemblance in Christ

The Family Resemblance

A New Inheritance

When we hear phrases like “You have your grandmother’s eyes” or “You act just like your uncle,” we often feel a mix of emotions. On one hand, we’re grateful to inherit positive traits from our loved ones. On the other hand, we cringe at the thought of mirroring their flaws. But what if we could inherit something far more valuable than physical characteristics or personality quirks?

A Divine Makeover

Jesus once told a devout man that he needed a radical transformation – to be “born again.” Our human efforts, no matter how good or religious, fall short of God’s standards. But when we invite Christ to recreate us, forgiveness and new life become ours. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.”

Reflecting the Divine

As we surrender to Christ’s work in our lives, we begin to take on a new family resemblance. We start to exhibit characteristics that mirror His love, kindness, and compassion. And when we do, others may notice and comment, “You look just like Jesus!” What a testament to the transformative power of faith!

A Prayer of Gratitude

Thank you, Father, for making this new life available through faith in Your son, Jesus Christ. Help me to submit to Your work in my life, that I may increasingly reflect Your love and character. Amen.
