Quenching Our Deepest Thirst: The Power of God’s Fresh Water

The Quest for Fresh Water

As I sat on a sun-kissed bench, surrounded by the gentle sounds of a stone fountain, I couldn’t help but reflect on the significance of fresh water. The beautifully crafted fountain, with its three tiers and shimmering lights, was a sight to behold. But what caught my attention was the bronze plaque that read: “Re-Circulated Water.” In this semi-arid region of Colorado, water conservation is a way of life. Lawns are giving way to drought-resistant plants, and every drop counts.

The Difference Between Fresh and Re-Circulated Water

While re-circulated water can still bring beauty and refreshment, it’s not the same as fresh water. When we’re parched, we crave something more – something that quenches our deepest thirst. As believers, we’re called to share God’s love and compassion with others. But are we sharing the fresh water of today, or simply re-circulating the blessings of yesterday?

The Abundance of God’s Fresh Water

Unlike the depleting underground pools of Colorado, God’s supply of fresh water is limitless. His love and compassion are “new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23). Oswald Chambers reminds us to “beware of harking back to what you were once when God wants you to be something you have never been.” We must stay alert to the new ways God wants to satisfy our thirst.

Searching for Fresh Water

Searching for fresh water can be a process, but it’s always worth it. It requires us to be intentional, to seek out the small springs of God’s presence in our daily lives. As I prayed, I asked God to keep me alert to the new ways He wants to satisfy my thirst. I want to experience the freshness of His love every morning, and share it with others.

A Call to Action

So, let’s ask ourselves: Are we sharing fresh water or re-circulated water with others? Are we seeking out God’s presence in our daily lives, or relying on yesterday’s blessings? Let’s stay thirsty for God’s fresh water, and allow it to flow through us, refreshing those around us.
