The Promise of Eternal Reunion
As I reflect on the passing of my 93-year-old father, I’m reminded of the comforting words of John 14:3, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself, that where I am, there ye may be also.” Though his departure brings sorrow, I rejoice in the knowledge that he’s now in the presence of our wonderful God and Savior.
A Life of Purpose and Power
As believers, we’re not only given purpose and power for living a supernatural, abundant life through the indwelling Holy Spirit, but we’re also promised a place in His presence when this life is over. This promise should motivate us to live a life that burdens and concerns us about the needs of others, moment by moment, day by day.
The Anticipation of Eternity
Martin Luther once wondered what we would do in heaven, assuming there would be no change, no work, no eating, no drinking. But a friend wisely replied, “Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.” Luther realized that the sight of God would give us quite enough to do! We won’t need to know exactly what heaven will be like; we need only know who will be there – our Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
The Assurance of Eternal Fellowship
One day, I’ll join my father, mother, brothers, sisters, and multitudes of loved ones, friends, and saints to spend eternity in that place where “eye hath not seen, ear hath not heard…what God hath prepared for those who love Him.” The assurance and anticipation of eternal fellowship with our Lord should drive us to live a life that honors Him.
Today’s Action Point
Today, take a moment to meditate on the glory and beauty of your heavenly Father and your eternal home. Encourage those around you to prepare to join Him when their work on earth is done. May the promise of eternal reunion motivate you to live a life that brings glory to God.
