Surgery and Salvation: A Personal Reflection
When I underwent major surgery, I was struck by the sheer number of medical professionals involved in my care. From the prep team to the operating room staff, and finally, the recovery room nurses, each played a vital role in my treatment. However, amidst the flurry of activity, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of disconnection. Where was the one person dedicated solely to my needs?
The Missing Piece: A Private Nurse
That’s when I realized the value of having a private nurse by my side. Fortunately, I was blessed to have one, even though insurance didn’t cover the cost. This dedicated caregiver became my lifeline, providing emotional support and personalized attention throughout my hospital stay.
A Constant Companion
My private nurse was there when I woke up in the recovery room, holding my hand and offering reassurance. She accompanied me to my hospital room, where she remained by my bedside for five days and nights, sleeping on a small cot. As I took my first tentative steps, she encouraged me every step of the way. Whether I needed pain management or assistance with personal care, she was always there to help.
A Spiritual Parallel
As I reflected on my experience, I couldn’t help but draw a spiritual parallel. Just as my private nurse was a constant presence in my life, Jesus has been my faithful companion since I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. Scripture promises that He will never leave or forsake me, carrying my burdens and meeting my every need.
A Marriage of Love and Support
The concept of marriage, often referred to in Scripture, is meant to evoke a sense of security and commitment. Unfortunately, our society’s disposable approach to marriage undermines this divine intention. Yet, my own marriage of over forty years has been a testament to the power of love and support. My wife, my private nurse, and my best friend, has been a constant source of comfort and strength.
A Blessed Patient, Husband, and Sinner
In the end, my surgical experience reminded me of the incredible blessings in my life. I am grateful for my private nurse, my wife, and my Savior, who have all been a source of comfort and strength. I am indeed a blessed patient, husband, and sinner, saved by God’s merciful grace.
