Unshakable Peace in the Face of Uncertainty
As I reflect on my journey, I’m reminded of the wise words of Matthew 25:13, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or hour.” Little did I know that these words would become a reality during a harrowing experience on a flight to India.
A Journey Around the World
My husband Marvin and I, along with another couple, embarked on an epic adventure, circling the globe in just 10 days. As we soared through the skies, exhaustion began to set in. I was eager to return home and finalize my Christmas preparations. Our itinerary included stops in Bangalore, India, followed by Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau. With only five days left, we were looking forward to a smooth journey.
A Sudden Turn of Events
On the flight to India, the noise level in the cabin seemed amplified, likely due to our fatigue. I noticed the flight attendants whispering among themselves, their concerned expressions evident. Shortly after, the pilot’s calm voice came over the public address system, announcing that a bomb threat had been received. The plane fell silent, as if time stood still. Passengers were instructed to remain calm and prepare for an unusual landing procedure.
A Moment of Reflection
In the stillness, I couldn’t help but evaluate my life. I thought to myself, “Lord, maybe I’ll see You today. That would be wonderful.” A sense of calm and peace enveloped me, which seemed almost surreal given the circumstances. This unshakeable peace was a direct result of knowing God personally and being in the center of His will.
The Safest Place
Elisabeth Elliot, a renowned author and speaker, once said that the safest place for anyone is in the center of God’s will. I experienced this truth firsthand that day. Even in the face of uncertainty, I felt safe, knowing I was exactly where God wanted me to be.
A False Alarm, But a Lasting Lesson
We were eventually relieved to learn that the bomb threat was a false alarm. However, the experience left an indelible mark on my heart. I realized that true peace comes not from the absence of fear, but from the presence of God. As Deuteronomy 33:27 reminds us, “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
A Prayer of Gratitude
Father, thank you for giving us peace, perfect peace, in place of fear. May we always remember that You are our refuge, our eternal source of comfort and strength. Amen.
