The Heart of God: A Refuge for the Broken
A God Who Listens
In Psalm 102:17, we’re reminded that God is never too busy to hear the prayers of the destitute. As a young Christian businessman, I had the privilege of serving as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood. One of my responsibilities was chairing the deputation ministry, which involved over 100 college and post-college age men and women dedicated to serving Christ in hospitals, jails, and skid row missions.
Ministering to the Forgotten
On many occasions, I had the opportunity to speak at mission meetings attended by hundreds of people who had lost their way. These individuals were desperate for help, both physically and spiritually. As I shared God’s message with them, I was deeply moved by their stories and struggles. I found myself embracing them in the name of Jesus, urging them to let Him transform their lives.
Life-Changing Results
Many of these individuals responded to God’s call, and their lives were forever changed. However, there were also those who refused Christ’s offer of redemption. One encounter that still resonates with me is with a man who had lost everything due to his addiction to drink. Despite his dire circumstances, he refused to surrender his life to Christ, citing that he had too much to give up. I was taken aback by his response.
God’s Desire for Every Person
God’s desire is for every person to come to repentance, regardless of their background or circumstances. He is eager to embrace us with His love and forgiveness, transforming our lives. As we reflect on Psalm 102:18-28, let us remember that God is not willing that any should perish.
Today’s Action Point
Today, take a moment to encourage others – rich and poor, old and young – who are spiritually destitute to turn to God. He loves and forgives, offering eternal and supernatural life to all who seek Him.
