Finding Peace in a Noisy World
In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven society, it’s easy to get caught up in the constant stream of notifications, messages, and emails. But what’s the cost of this constant connectivity? According to Professor David Levy of the University of Washington’s School of Information, our ability to engage in contemplation and quiet reflection is suffering as a result.
The Importance of Quiet Time
The Bible encourages us to “be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10), but how can we do that when our devices are constantly vying for our attention? The truth is, interruptions in our spiritual conversations with God can be detrimental to our faith. It’s essential to find a quiet space for prayer, free from distractions, where we can focus on hearing God’s voice.
Preparing for Prayer
So, how can we prepare ourselves for meaningful prayer in a world that’s always “on”? The first step is to find a quiet place to pray, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Next, turn off those distractions – silence your phone, log out of email, and eliminate any other interruptions that might hinder your conversation with God. Then, take a deep breath, and simply “be still.” Allow yourself to quiet your mind and focus on God’s presence.
Getting to Know God
As we quiet our minds and focus on God, we open ourselves up to a deeper understanding of His character and love. We begin to know Him more intimately, and our faith grows stronger as a result. So, take a moment today to step away from the noise and distractions of the world, and simply “be still.” You never know what God might have in store for you.
