The Eternal Perspective
When faced with a terminal illness, our priorities often shift. For my brother, Frank, the diagnosis of Lou Gehrig’s disease meant reevaluating his plans and dreams. He and his wife, June, had envisioned a future filled with entrepreneurship and homeownership, but God had other plans. And yet, in the midst of uncertainty, Frank’s heart was filled with a sense of eternity.
A Glimpse of Heaven
As we spent more time together, Frank’s concerns turned from earthly pursuits to the welfare of his loved ones. He was anxious about June’s future, but God provided him with a remarkable vision – a towering angel, thirty stories tall, who would watch over her. Our evenings were filled with songs of heaven, courtesy of the Gaither’s, and my own reading list included inspiring works by Joni Eareckson and C.S. Lewis. These influences broadened my understanding of our eternal home, a place we often neglect to consider.
The Journey Home
Recently, I received an email from Betty, who felt an inexplicable sense of emptiness despite her devotion to the Lord. I realized that she, like many of us, was longing for her true home – heaven. We’re all on a journey, passing through this life, but our ultimate destination is eternity. It’s easy to forget that earth is not our final resting place.
A Confidence of Faith
When my mother passed away, I knew she was in heaven, but I wasn’t entirely sure of my own eternal fate. Perhaps you’re unsure as well. I’d like to share with you the confidence I’ve found in my faith. Frank was certain of his place in heaven, and you can be too.
A Prayer for Eternity
Father, help us remember that this world is not our home. We’re pilgrims on a journey to be with You. May those who read these words be filled with the assurance that, when their time on earth ends, they will be in heaven with You. Amen.
