Seizing the Moment: Sharing Faith with Courage
As I rode alongside my fourth-grade student with autism and his mother on a field trip to a museum, an unexpected opportunity presented itself. I felt an overwhelming urge to share my faith with her, but doubts and fears crept in. What if she wasn’t interested? What if she got upset?
Listening to the Whisper
Despite my reservations, I sensed the Lord’s gentle whisper, urging me to take a step of faith. I knew I needed to muster the courage to share my beliefs. Before embarking on the trip, I sought prayer and support from my family and Bible study group.
Breaking the Silence
As we toured the museum and later walked along the beach, our conversations remained superficial. But during the car ride back, an awkward silence fell, and I felt the Lord’s prompting once again. It was time to take a deep breath and initiate a meaningful conversation.
Finding Common Ground
When she expressed gratitude for something, I saw an opening. “This reminds me of my thankfulness for God in my life,” I said. “Do you have a faith?” Her response – that she was a Sikh – sparked my curiosity. I asked follow-up questions, learning more about her cultural heritage and religious practices.
Sharing the Gospel
As our conversation flowed, I shared my love for Jesus Christ and asked if she had ever read the Bible. Her negative response didn’t deter me. With her permission, I began to share the Good News, explaining the significance of God’s forgiveness and love.
The Power of Courage
Although her response was polite but brief, I knew that the Holy Spirit had given me the courage to share my faith. I prayed that the seeds of God’s Word would take root in her life. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: when we seize the opportunities our Father provides, we can make a lasting impact.
A Call to Action
I challenge you to be brave and take the opportunities to share God’s love with others. Don’t let fear hold you back. Remember, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, NIV).
