Finding Peace in a World of Worry
As humans, we’re wired to worry. We fret about everything from the mundane to the monumental. The IRS, SAT, and FBI can evoke anxiety, as can concerns about our financial security and management skills. Even the thought of the world ending before our parking meter expires can keep us up at night! We worry about what others think, including our furry friends, and fret about the unexpected twists of life, like discovering our “healthy” yogurt isn’t so healthy after all.
A Life of Freedom from Fear
But did God save us just to watch us squirm? Did He teach us to walk only to see us stumble? Would He sacrifice Himself on the cross for our sins, only to ignore our prayers? It’s absurd to think so. Scripture reassures us that we’re not alone, that “He has put his angels in charge of you to watch over you wherever you go” (Psalm 91:11).
The Promise of Protection
This promise echoes through the ages, reminding us that we’re never truly helpless. As Psalm 37:25 declares, “I was young, and now I am old, but I have never seen good people left helpless or their children begging for food.” This isn’t a guarantee of a life without challenges, but rather a promise that we’ll never face them alone.
Trusting in God’s Providence
So, why do we worry? Is it because we’ve forgotten the depth of God’s love and care for us? Have we lost sight of His sovereignty over our lives? Perhaps it’s time to refocus on the promises of Scripture and trust that He has our backs, no matter what life throws our way.
Living a Life of Faith
When we choose to trust in God’s goodness and provision, we can break free from the shackles of worry and fear. We can live a life of faith, marked by peace, hope, and confidence in His presence. So, let’s take a deep breath, release our anxieties, and rest in the knowledge that we’re never truly alone.
