Breaking Free from Self-Defeating Cycles
Sharon Hersh’s journey with addiction serves as a powerful reminder that true healing can only be found in one place: God. The idea that we can fix our own brokenness with the same mindset that led to our downfall is a recipe for disaster. This self-defeating approach may bring temporary relief, but it’s ultimately unsustainable.
The Limits of Self-Healing
Sharon’s experience with alcohol addiction is a prime example. When she initially stopped drinking, she credited her own strength and willpower. But as soon as life’s challenges resurfaced, her emotional wounds reopened, and she fell back into old patterns. This cycle of self-reliance and relapse is all too familiar for many of us.
A Turning Point: Surrendering to God
It wasn’t until Sharon surrendered to God during an Easter Passion Play that she experienced true transformation. In that moment, she realized that God’s sacrifice – His deepest wound – was the only remedy for her own deepest wounds. This profound understanding marked a turning point in her journey towards lasting healing.
Looking to Christ for Healing
Dear friend, don’t be fooled into thinking that self-help is enough. Our deepest wounds require a deeper solution. Look to Christ, who offers us His sacrifice, His forgiveness, and His healing. It’s only through surrendering to Him that we can break free from the cycles of addiction and self-defeat.
A Call to Surrender
So, dear one, where are you placing your trust? Are you relying on your own strength to overcome your struggles, or are you surrendering to the One who can truly heal and set you free? Remember, God’s grace can break through even the most enslaving behaviors, and His sacrifice can heal the deepest wounds in your soul.
