Becoming Like Jesus: Embracing God’s Transforming Power

Embracing Transformation: Becoming More Like Jesus

As children, my daughters would spend hours playing “dress-up,” adorning themselves in their mother’s attire, filling purses with crayons, and imagining grown-up scenarios. They wanted to be just like mom, if only for a moment. Similarly, we often look at ourselves, acknowledging our immaturity and sinfulness, and yearn to clothe ourselves in something better. We aspire to emulate the perfect example – Jesus.

The Desire for Spiritual Growth

This may seem like an unattainable goal, but there’s a crucial truth to grasp: God is willing to help us. He loves us, not despite our flaws, but because of them. His love is not conditional upon our perfection; rather, it’s an unconditional acceptance of who we are right now. However, God refuses to leave us in our current state. He wants to transform us, little by little, into reflections of Himself.

God’s Heart for Us

Why does God desire this transformation? He wants us to possess a heart like His – full of love, compassion, and mercy. We need to hear this message repeatedly, as it’s easy to forget: God loves us just the way we are, but He’s committed to helping us become more like Jesus. As Ezekiel 36:26 reminds us, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

Embracing God’s Transforming Power

This promise is not just a theoretical concept; it’s a tangible reality available to each of us. As we surrender to God’s love and guidance, He begins to shape us into the likeness of Christ. This process may be gradual, but it’s guaranteed. So, let’s embrace God’s transforming power, trusting that He will help us become more like Jesus, one step at a time.
