The Omniscient God: A Deeper Understanding
As we navigate the complexities of life, it’s comforting to know that there’s a higher power who not only sees everything but also understands our deepest thoughts and desires. In Psalms 139:1-5, we’re reminded of God’s all-encompassing knowledge, “You have examined my heart and know everything about me… You know when I sit or stand… You chart the path ahead of me, and tell me where to stop and rest.”
A Mother’s Intuition vs. God’s Omniscience
As parents, we often possess a unique intuition about our children’s actions. We may notice subtle changes in their behavior or pick up on hidden clues that reveal their secrets. However, this intuition is limited to our human experience and observation. God, on the other hand, has always known everything – not because of experience, but because of His divine nature.
The Attributes of God
Arthur W. Pink, in his book “The Attributes of God,” eloquently describes God’s infinite knowledge: “God knows everything. Everything possible, everything actual; all events and all creatures of the past, the present, and the future… Nothing escapes His notice, nothing can be hid.” This understanding is reinforced in Ezekiel 11:5, where God declares, “For I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.”
The Power of Prayer
One of the most remarkable aspects of God’s omniscience is that He hears our prayers and understands the intent of our hearts. His infinite mind can simultaneously attend to the prayers of millions, without compromising His attention to each individual. This realization should evoke a sense of awe and reverence, prompting us to fall on our knees in adoration.
A Heart of Adoration
As we grapple with the magnitude of God’s knowledge, we’re humbled by our own finite minds. Yet, this limitation should not hinder our pursuit of knowing and loving Him more. Let us pray, “Father, you are so great. Our finite minds cannot take it in. Give us the capacity to know and love you more. Amen!”
