Embracing Our True Identity
As believers, we often focus on our future hopes and dreams, forgetting that we are already complete in Christ. In Colossians 2:9-10, we’re reminded that “in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness.” This profound truth is easy to overlook, but it’s essential to grasp if we want to live a life of confidence and purpose.
A Lesson from a Little Ballerina
I’m reminded of a story about a four-year-old girl named Rosie, who had just finished her first ballet recital. As she entered a restaurant with her parents, still dressed in her pink dance costume, the host asked her if she wanted to be a ballerina when she grew up. With a hint of confidence and a touch of scorn, Rosie replied, “I AM a ballerina!” While she knows she still has much to learn and accomplish, she’s already embracing her identity as a ballerina.
The Same Is True for Us
Similarly, as Christians, we may not have reached our full potential, but we can confidently say, “I AM a child of God!” We may not be perfect, and we still have much to learn and grow from, but our identity is secure in Christ. John writes in 1 John 3:2, “we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as he is.” But let’s not overlook the present tense of our salvation – we are already complete in Christ.
Living in the Reality of Our Identity
God’s love for us is not conditional on our performance or achievements. He cannot love us more or less than He does at this moment. We are His children, and that’s a fact we can bank on. So, let’s live in the reality of our identity, just like Rosie lives in the reality of being a ballerina. We may not be perfect, but we are complete in Christ, and that’s all that matters.
