Surrendering to God: The Power of Humility in Faith

Humility in Action: Prioritizing God’s Interests Above Our Own

The Call to Humility

In a world where self-interest often takes center stage, the Bible challenges us to adopt a radically different mindset. As Philippians 2:3-8 reminds us, true humility involves counting others more significant than ourselves and looking not only to our own interests but also to the interests of others.

The Dangers of Self-Centeredness

How often do we prioritize our own desires and ambitions above all else? Do we stop to consider whether our interests align with God’s will? The truth is, our limited perspective can lead us astray, causing us to pursue goals that may not be in line with God’s plan.

Jesus: The Ultimate Example of Humility

Jesus, who was in the form of God, chose to humble Himself, taking on the form of a servant and ultimately submitting to death on the cross. His prayer in Gethsemane, “Not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:38-39), demonstrates His unwavering commitment to the Father’s will.

Seeking God’s Guidance

To truly have a mind like Christ Jesus, we must learn to surrender our personal interests to God. This requires a willingness to seek His guidance through prayer, asking Him to reveal whether our desires align with His will. As we humble ourselves before Him, we can trust that He knows what is best for us.

A Prayer for Surrender

Father, help us to seek You today. Let us lay our interests and desires before You, surrendering them to Your will. Give us the courage to let go of our own plans if they do not align with Yours. We trust in Your goodness and wisdom, knowing that You know what is best for us. Take the wheel, Lord, and guide us to where You want us to be.

Reflecting on Our Motives

Take a moment to ask yourself: Are my interests aligned with God’s will? How do I know for sure? Am I willing to surrender my own desires to follow God’s plan?
