Representing God Well: A Call to Authentic Christianity

Representing the King

As believers, we are part of a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God’s special possession (1 Peter 2:9). This prestigious identity comes with a great responsibility – to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light.

A Lesson from the Security Detail

Living in a capital city, I often witnessed the pomp and circumstance surrounding visits from world leaders. The motorcade would arrive, accompanied by a fleet of black cars filled with serious-looking security personnel. Their somber demeanor, identical attire, and dark sunglasses made them stand out in a crowd. While they were devoted to their leader and well-trained, they failed to blend in. In fact, their presence was more likely to intimidate than invite.

The Christian “Secret Service”

As followers of Christ, we are, in a sense, His representatives on earth. We don’t need to protect Him, but we do need to represent Him well. I wonder, do we come across as approachable and relatable, or do we unintentionally intimidate those around us? Do our words and actions attract people to the aroma of Christ, or do they repel them?

The Misconception of Being “Peculiar”

I grew up with a misconception about what it means to be a Christian. I thought we were supposed to be odd and peculiar, standing out in a crowd for all the wrong reasons. But that’s not what God intends. We are to be His special possession, declaring His praises to a world in need of His love and compassion.

A Prayer for Authenticity

Father, teach me how to be a Christian who honors You with my attitude and actions. Help me to be a magnet for those who are hungry for Your love and compassion, just as they were drawn to Jesus. May I represent You well, without being a barrier to those who need You most.
