From Idle Faith to Active Obedience

Finding Joy in the Journey

As I reflect on the past year, I’m reminded of a challenge I received to take up a hobby that would bring me relaxation and joy. The advice was simple: slow down, enjoy the process, and don’t worry about the outcome. Living in a recreational area, I decided to try my hand at ATVing. I purchased a few quads, intending to sell some to offset the cost of my own.

Immersed in the World of Quads

With the help of my brother, I’ve spent the last year learning everything there is to know about quads. From cleaning and fixing them to ordering parts and maintaining them, I’ve become an expert of sorts. My garage has been filled with quads, and I’ve even sold a few. Yet, despite all my preparations, I’ve only taken a couple of trial runs. I haven’t truly experienced the thrill of quad riding.

A Parallels Between Quads and Faith

This got me thinking: isn’t this similar to being a “closet” Christian? We can study our faith, learn about God, and even act like Christians, but if we don’t put our faith into practice, what’s the point? I realized that I need to either get serious about quad riding or let it go. The same applies to my faith. I must take action and share my beliefs with others.

A Call to Action

Jesus’ words in Matthew 28:18-20 come to mind: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” He promises to be with us always, until the end of the age. This week, I pray that we’ll take these words to heart and start living out our faith in a meaningful way.

May you have a blessed week!
