Forgiveness Unlocked: Relying on God’s Power, Not Our Own

Unlocking the Power of Forgiveness

When it comes to forgiveness, many of us struggle to let go of past hurts and resentments. We may feel like we need more faith to forgive others, but what if we’re looking at it from the wrong perspective?

Rethinking Faith and Forgiveness

Jesus taught his disciples that they needed to forgive not just once or twice, but seven times a day if asked to do so. Their response was telling: “Increase our faith!” They believed that more faith would give them the ability to forgive more. But Jesus had a different message. He said that even the smallest amount of faith, like a mustard seed, could move mountains – or in this case, uproot a mulberry tree and plant it in the sea.

It’s Not About Quantity, But Quality

Jesus wasn’t saying that his disciples needed more faith; he was saying that they needed to rely on him, the master, for faith. It’s not about how much faith we have, but about where we place our trust. Even a tiny amount of faith can empower us to forgive when we ask for it.

A Prayer for Forgiveness

So what can we do when faced with the challenge of forgiveness? We can pray: “Heavenly Father, please increase our faith. Empower us with your Holy Spirit that we might forgive when we are asked to. In Jesus’ name, amen.” By relying on God’s power and faith, we can overcome our own limitations and forgive others as he has forgiven us.

The Kind of Faith that Pleases God

True faith isn’t about our own abilities or strengths; it’s about trusting in God’s power and goodness. When we focus on our relationship with him, we’ll find that forgiveness becomes not only possible, but also transformative. By embracing this kind of faith, we can overcome unbelief and experience the freedom that comes from living a life of forgiveness and love.
