A Unexpected Companion in a New City
After 23 years of calling one place home, my family and I made the bold decision to sell our farm and start anew in a city an hour away. As we settled into our apartment, my husband Marvin departed on a ministry trip, leaving me to navigate this unfamiliar terrain alone. The sense of isolation was palpable.
Finding Solace in Unlikely Places
Craving a change of scenery, I decided to take a stroll along the nearby oceanfront dike. The fresh air and sound of the waves were just what I needed to clear my mind. But little did I know, I was about to receive an unexpected surprise. As I walked, a big black dog appeared out of nowhere, trotting alongside me with an air of familiarity. He was incredibly friendly, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of companionship.
A Brief but Meaningful Encounter
Together, we played a game of fetch on the beach, and I was struck by his eagerness to please. He even chased after ducks, always returning to me for approval. Passersby assumed he was my dog, and for a brief moment, I felt like I belonged. As we made our way back to my apartment, my new furry friend bid me farewell, disappearing into the crowd. I never saw him again, but the impact of our encounter lingered.
A Gentle Reminder of God’s Love
In that moment, I was overwhelmed with gratitude and love for God. He knew exactly what I needed – a reminder that I wasn’t alone. As I reflect on that experience, I’m reminded of the countless individuals who feel isolated and unseen. Father, I pray that You would reveal Your love to them, showing them that they are not forgotten. Thank You, Lord. Amen.
