Encountering the Divine in Nature’s Splendor
As I gazed out at the breathtaking scenery from the deck of our friend’s boat, cruising along British Columbia’s stunning west coast, I felt an overwhelming sense of awe at the majesty of God’s creation. The lush, emerald forests stretching as far as the eye could see, the rhythmic ebb and flow of the tides, and the diverse array of birdlife and marine creatures we encountered all combined to fill my heart with praise and gratitude.
Two Worlds, One Summer
Our summer adventure took us to two distinct regions of British Columbia. In addition to the oceanic experience, we spent a week exploring the province’s arid interior. Each morning, a parade of quails and their chicks would descend upon the house, eager to partake in the breakfast spread kindly provided by our hosts. Witnessing these avian families up close was a true delight.
Solitude and Spiritual Renewal
One of the most satisfying aspects of our journey was the opportunity to revel in solitude. The stillness and quietude allowed for a deeper connection with the divine. As Philip Keller so eloquently puts it in his book, God is My Delight: “At such moments, there wells up within us an overwhelming outpouring of profound praise… He understands our limitations; He perceives our profound affection, our simple faith; He is pleased beyond measure; He delights to draw near; He deigns to commune with us in spirit.”
Intimate Moments with the Divine
These private interludes of great intimacy and transparency are truly precious. In these moments, we are in the company of God Himself, basking in His presence and delighting in His love. As I reflect on these experiences, I am filled with gratitude and humility.
A Heartfelt Prayer
Oh God, I thank You for the privilege of communing with You. Your awesomeness is beyond my ability to express, but I am deeply grateful for the gift of fellowship with You. Thank You for creating me to know and love You more fully. Amen.
