Answering the Call: Faith in Action for Those in Need

Responding to the Still Voice

A Widow’s Cry for Help

When a widow in our community reached out for assistance with her water pressure issues, I knew I had to act. The problem was diagnosed as a faulty pressure valve, requiring replacement. However, her strata council insisted that only a licensed plumber could perform the necessary work.

Seeking Guidance

As the widow called a plumber, she kept me informed of his arrival. Initially, I thought a quick phone call would suffice to discuss the issue. But something inside urged me to drive over and meet with the plumber in person. By the time I arrived, he had already identified the problem and provided a quote for the repair.

A More Affordable Solution

Through our conversation, we discovered a more cost-effective alternative that would cut the original quote in half. If I hadn’t taken the time to meet with the plumber, the widow would have been faced with a significantly higher bill.

Faith in Action

This experience reminded me of James 1:27, which says, “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress…” Listening to that still voice within me prompted me to take action and assist the widow in need.

Heeding the Call

It’s essential for us to tune in to the Lord’s promptings and respond accordingly. My prayer for you this week is that when God asks, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” you’ll respond with a resounding, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)

May we remain attentive to the still voice, ready to serve those around us.
