WAKE-UP CALL: The Alarming State of Evangelism Today

The Alarming State of Evangelism Today

As we reflect on the recent election, where voters had the opportunity to shape the direction of our nation, we’re met with a staggering reality: only a fraction of eligible voters exercised their right to vote. In some counties, voter turnout was as low as 14%, and statewide, it barely surpassed 20%. But what’s even more concerning is the parallel between this apathy and the state of Christian evangelism.

A Crisis of Complacency

When we crunch the numbers, we find that only half of the adult population is registered to vote. Of those, only one in five turns out to cast their ballot. This means that a mere 5% of the population can decide the outcome of an election. How can we remain so complacent about our opportunity to influence the nation’s trajectory?

The Evangelism Paradox

The statistics are even more dire when it comes to Christian evangelism. A recent study revealed that a staggering 97% of professing Christians fail to share their faith with others. Why is it that only certain groups, like Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses, actively engage in door-to-door evangelism? The Barna Research Group found that only 55% of born-again Christians believe it’s their responsibility to share their faith at all.

The Urgency of Evangelism

If we genuinely believe in the transformative power of Jesus Christ, and the reality of heaven and hell, how can we ignore the spiritual condition of those around us? Imagine firefighters polishing their engine outside a burning building, while people are trapped inside. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with maintaining equipment, but something is gravely amiss when we prioritize tasks over human lives. The world is on fire, and people are trapped in sin and dying. Do we have a burning desire to rescue them, or will we remain comfortable, merely polishing our Bibles?

A Call to Action

As Christians, we must recognize the gravity of our responsibility to share the Gospel. We can’t afford to be complacent in the face of spiritual apathy. The task of evangelism demands an overwhelming sense of urgency, a passion to rescue those trapped in sin. Will you join the ranks of those who are committed to spreading the Good News, or will you remain idle, watching as the world burns around us?
