The Unwavering Beauty of Sacrificial Love
A life-changing encounter with the song “Above All” by Lenny LeBlanc and Paul Baloche left an indelible mark on my heart. The poignant lyrics, sung in church one Sunday morning, moved me to tears. Even years later, the mere thought of those words evokes a deep sense of emotion.
A Rose Trampled on the Ground
The song’s chorus, with its vivid imagery of Christ’s crucifixion, resonated profoundly with me. I was going through a period of rejection and isolation, and the realization that Christ, my comforter and best friend, had experienced similar feelings, touched my soul. The Bible refers to Jesus as the “Rose of Sharon,” a symbol of beauty and fragrance. Yet, it was in His darkest moment, crushed and trampled, that He offered the sweetest fragrance of all.
The Fragrance of Sacrifice
During a Day of Prayer gathering, as my husband and I led the congregation in singing “Above All,” the Lord revealed a new insight to me. Just as a crushed rose releases its sweet fragrance, Jesus, too, offers a fragrance that draws people to Him. This realization led me to ponder: what kind of fragrance do we, as Christians, offer when we face rejection and feel alone? Is it sweet and inviting, or does it falter?
A Heartfelt Prayer
In my thirties, I discovered that being a Christian wasn’t just about attending church, but about yielding control of my life to God. I learned to pray a prayer of surrender, acknowledging my need for Him and inviting Christ to take His rightful place on the throne of my life. This prayer, spoken in faith, can bring a transformative power to our lives.
Surrendering to the Divine
If this prayer resonates with your heart’s desire, take a moment to bow in prayer and trust God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. As you surrender to His love and power, you’ll experience a depth of connection with Him that will transform your life forever.
