Unshakable Foundation
The Earth Shakes, But God Remains
The world still remembers the devastating earthquake that struck northeastern Japan, leaving destruction and chaos in its wake. Buildings crumbled, roads cracked open, and even the once-reliable earth seemed to turn against its inhabitants. The very foundations of life were shaken to their core.
A Shift in Perspective
But beneath the surface, something even more profound was taking place. Tectonic plates were shifting, realigning the very fabric of existence. In that moment, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to reexamine their understanding of what they had always considered solid and dependable.
The Greatest Paradigm Shift
Yet, this was not the first time the norm had been shattered. At the cross, the old paradigm of pleasing God was destroyed, revealing a new and eternal plan. The concept of God as Rock – a steadfast and unshakeable foundation – has been explored by poets and musicians throughout history: “Rock of Ages, cleft for me”; “On Christ the solid rock I stand”; “the Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.”
The Illusion of Self-Sufficiency
Unfortunately, many of us still cling to the world’s model of self-reliance, government provision, or even entitlement. But when the earth beneath us shifts, and our lives begin to crumble, we’re forced to seek a more reliable foundation. And that’s when we discover the God who never fails, never changes, and always loves.
Hope in the Midst of Chaos
As the psalmist so eloquently put it, “When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my Hope and Stay.” In a world where the earth can shift beneath our feet, God remains the one constant, the one Rock upon which we can stand firm.
