The Unshakeable Foundation of God’s Sovereignty
When uncertainty reigns, fear and dismay can quickly take hold. But in the midst of turmoil, we can find comfort in the unwavering promise of God’s presence and guidance. As Isaiah 41:10 reminds us, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Shattering Misconceptions
Misconceptions about God’s character abound, but they don’t have to. Through Scripture, God has revealed His attributes, illuminating the very essence of who He is. While our finite minds can’t fully comprehend God’s infinite nature, we can still study and learn from His own words.
Attributes of God
When we speak of God’s attributes, we’re talking about the characteristics that define Him. The list is extensive, reflecting the complexity of the “Great I Am.” One attribute that stands out is His sovereignty – the biblical teaching that all things are under God’s rule and control.
The Extent of God’s Sovereignty
God’s sovereignty means that nothing happens without His direction or permission. He works not just some things, but all things according to the counsel of His own will. His purposes are all-inclusive and never thwarted; nothing takes Him by surprise. This sovereignty is not just a theoretical concept, but a practical reality – God is in control, always and without exception.
No Limitations
As King of Kings and Lord of Lords, God has no limitations. By His grace, we are who we are. He is in control of all things in all places, and He lives within our hearts.
Reflection and Prayer
Take a moment to contemplate what God means to you and who you are because of Him. Imagine His sovereignty and dominion, far greater and bigger than anything the human mind can imagine.
Father God, You are sovereign in all things. I praise You and thank You for living in my heart and making me what and who I am. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You.
