The Power of Praise in Times of Crisis
When faced with overwhelming challenges, it’s natural to feel helpless and unsure of what to do. But what if we could turn the tables and find a way to triumph over adversity? The story of King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah in 2 Chronicles 20:22 offers a powerful lesson in the importance of praise and thanksgiving in the face of crisis.
A Desperate Situation
The armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir had declared war on Judah, leaving King Jehoshaphat and his people feeling vulnerable and powerless. In response, Jehoshaphat called upon the people to pray, seeking God’s intervention and guidance. God’s response was clear: “Don’t be afraid…the battle is not yours, but God’s!” (2 Chronicles 20:15-17).
The Unconventional Battle Plan
Instead of preparing for battle, God instructed the people to take a bold step: praise and worship Him. Jehoshaphat assembled a choir, clothed in sanctified garments, to lead the march against the enemy armies. As they walked, praising and thanking the Lord, God released His mighty power on their behalf. The result was nothing short of miraculous: the three opposing armies turned against each other, destroying one another.
The Lesson of Praise
This remarkable story teaches us that praise and thanksgiving are essential components of the Christian life. When faced with difficult circumstances, our natural inclination is to worry, fear, and doubt. But God calls us to respond differently. By praising and thanking Him, we demonstrate our trust and obedience, inviting God to intervene on our behalf.
God Honors Praise
Hebrews 13:15 reminds us that we are to continually offer our sacrifice of praise to God, telling others of the glory of His name. Psalm 136:1, 21-26 echoes this sentiment, urging us to praise God for His loving kindness and faithfulness. When we choose to praise God, even in the midst of turmoil, we open ourselves up to His supernatural resources, enabling us to live a life that transcends our circumstances.
A Call to Action
As we face our own challenges and difficulties, let us remember the power of praise and thanksgiving. Let us choose to trust God, even when our world seems to be crumbling around us. Let us depend upon His supernatural resources, and watch as He works miracles on our behalf. Will you join me in making a commitment to praise God, no matter what?
A Prayer of Praise
Lord, I will continue to praise You and give thanks to You for who You are. When difficulties arise, I will praise You all the more and thank You for Your faithfulness. I will depend upon Your supernatural resources, which enable me to live the supernatural life, regardless of the circumstances. Amen.
