The Life-Changing Power of Kind Words

The Power of Uplifting Words

As I reflect on my past, I realize that kind words were a rare commodity in my life. Perhaps that’s why two specific moments stand out vividly in my memory. When I was just a teenager, a woman who was like a second mother to me bestowed upon me a precious gift: “Mike, you are a good boy!” Her simple yet profound statement challenged my self-perception, making me wonder if I truly was a good person. No one had ever spoken such encouraging words to me before.

A Father’s Approval

Years later, while I was in university, my father shared some extraordinary news: “One of the neighbors told me that you made the dean’s list. I’m proud of you.” That moment remains etched in my memory as a rare instance of my dad’s heartfelt praise. The impact of those words still resonates within me.

The Sweetness of Gracious Words

As Solomon so eloquently puts it in Proverbs 16:24, “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” The words we choose to speak can either uplift or devastate others. Today, let’s strive to bring healing and sweetness into someone’s life through our words.

Embracing Our True Identity

But it’s not just about the words we speak to others; it’s also about the words we believe about ourselves. As children of God, we must remember that we are:

  • His masterpiece, created with purpose and love (Ephesians 2:10)
  • Chosen and adopted as His beloved children (Ephesians 1:4-5)
  • Forgiven and redeemed, no matter our past mistakes (Ephesians 1:7-8)
  • Blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)

Let’s internalize these truths and allow them to transform our lives. By doing so, we’ll become more confident, compassionate, and empowered to spread kindness and encouragement to those around us.
