The Unwavering Devotion of Anne Graham Lotz
At the sound of her familiar southern accent, the auditorium fell silent. Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of the legendary Billy Graham, stood confidently, her voice ringing out with conviction: “You can have all this world, just give me Jesus…” The words, a nod to a beloved hymn, were more than just a sentimental quote – they were a testament to her unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ.
A Life of Evangelism and Discipleship
Anne’s ministry has spanned the globe, touching countless lives through her tireless efforts in evangelism and discipleship. Her love for Jesus has been evident in every aspect of her work, from her inspiring Bible studies to her passionate speeches. Yet, as I listened to her words, I couldn’t help but ask myself: Could I, too, honestly say, “Just give me Jesus”?
The Cost of Devotion
What about the comforts and securities we often take for granted? Our Christian community, family, familiar worship, culture, and career – would we be willing to surrender them all for Jesus? The answer, for many, is a resounding no. But for thousands throughout history, “just-give-me-Jesus” has been a harsh reality. Those who have faced political oppression, physical confinement, or dark nights of the soul have had to rely solely on their faith to carry them through.
The Apostle Paul’s Unshakeable Faith
The Apostle Paul knew a thing or two about sacrifice. He had given up everything that once gave him worth in the world’s eyes, only to be misunderstood and maligned by others. Yet, even in the face of imprisonment and impending death, he declared with unwavering confidence, “For me, to live is Christ…and to die is gain.” If Paul were with us today, he would undoubtedly echo Anne’s sentiment: “Just give me Jesus.”
A Lesson in Surrender
As we reflect on the lives of these spiritual giants, we’re forced to confront our own priorities. Are we willing to surrender everything for Jesus, or are we holding onto earthly comforts and securities? The answer may not be easy, but it’s one we must confront if we’re to truly follow in the footsteps of those who have come before us.
