Unlikely Harvest
In a world where persecution and hardship are a stark reality, it’s easy to lose heart. For over 50 years, one country has made it illegal to openly share the message of Jesus Christ, leading to missionaries being persecuted, banned, or even killed. Local church leaders face constant humiliation, threats, and imprisonment, making it seem like a futile effort to spread the Good News.
Faithfulness in the Face of Adversity
Despite the challenges, men and women continue to obey Jesus’ command to “go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” Two remarkable individuals, sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their faith, became close friends and exemplified unwavering commitment to their beliefs. Through their good conduct, they earned increased responsibility, with one overseeing the prison’s pig farm and the other working in the apple orchards.
Seeds of Faith
These faithful men seized their “vocational opportunities” to plant churches in surrounding villages, much like they planted apple trees. As they tended to their duties, they shared the Gospel with those they encountered, sowing seeds of faith that would eventually bear fruit. Their focus wasn’t on personal recognition, but on serving God, trusting that He would bring growth to their efforts.
A Vibrant Harvest
Today, thriving churches flourish in those once-barren villages, a testament to the power of faith and perseverance. As the apostle Paul wrote, “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow” (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). We’re reminded that our role is to faithfully plant seeds, while God takes care of the harvest.
Gratitude and Obedience
Father, we thank you for the privilege of participating in your work. May we remain faithful in planting seeds, trusting that you will bring forth a bountiful harvest.
