Setting My Face Like Flint: Embracing a Life of Purpose and Commitment

Embracing a Life of Purpose and Commitment

As I reflect on the words of Isaiah 50:7, “Because the Lord God helps me, I will not be dismayed; therefore, I have set my face like flint to do his will, and I know I will triumph,” I am reminded of the importance of staying focused on our goals and commitments.

A Conversation That Sparked Reflection

Recently, my husband Marvin and I found ourselves driving home from a wedding in Olympia, Washington. As we often do during our drives, we began discussing topics that matter most to us. This time, we turned our attention to the upcoming year, thinking about our goals, resolutions, and plans. Having navigated a year of transition, we decided to revisit and reaffirm the commitments we made to God many years ago.

Reaffirming Our Commitments

As we pondered what we wanted to pour our lives into in the coming year, we asked ourselves: What will we continue to do with all our hearts, minds, and souls? Here are some of the affirmations we made to God and to each other:

  • We will love the Lord our God with every fiber of our being, honoring Him with our heart, soul, and strength.
  • We will serve Him with unwavering dedication, striving to please Him in all our ways.
  • We will anchor our lives in the Bible, using its timeless wisdom as our guiding standard.
  • We will cherish and be faithful to each other, cultivating a strong and loving relationship.
  • We will prioritize our children and grandchildren, loving and supporting them unconditionally.
  • We will generously give our tithes and offerings to the Lord, trusting in His provision.
  • We will work diligently to spread the message of Christ, helping those in need around the world.

A Call to Action

As I reflect on these commitments, I am reminded of the importance of writing them down. Have you taken the time to record your promises to God? I encourage you to do so, keeping them in a place where you can regularly revisit them, such as in your Bible. By doing so, you will be reminded of your vows and inspired to stay the course.

A Heartfelt Prayer

Father, we thank You for the grace, will, and power to follow Your ways. We say yes to Your plans, embracing Your will with enthusiasm and devotion. Amen.
