Prioritizing God in Crisis: A Powerful Lesson in Faith

The Power of Prioritizing God in Crisis

When faced with insurmountable challenges, our natural instinct is to panic and focus on the problem at hand. However, King Hezekiah’s exemplary response to a dire situation teaches us a valuable lesson in prioritizing God’s greatness over our problems.

Surrounded by Enemies, Focused on God

With 185,000 enemy troops encircling Jerusalem, King Hezekiah was presented with an ultimatum: surrender and live as slaves, or face annihilation. Yet, instead of panicking, Hezekiah turned to God, acknowledging His sovereignty and power over the universe.

Worship Before Petition

Hezekiah’s prayer is a remarkable display of faith and humility. Rather than begging God to intervene, he began by worshiping and affirming God’s greatness: “O Lord, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.” Only then did he mention the crisis at hand, almost as an afterthought.

Maximizing God, Minimizing Problems

When we focus on our problems, we inadvertently minimize God’s greatness and ability to handle them. Hezekiah’s approach, on the other hand, lifted the crisis above human thinking and placed it in God’s loving care. By acknowledging God’s sovereignty, Hezekiah demonstrated that God’s power is not limited by human circumstances.

The Power of Faith

The outcome of Hezekiah’s prayer is nothing short of miraculous. The next morning, the enemy army lay defeated, struck down by an Angel of God. This dramatic turn of events serves as a powerful reminder that, no matter how insurmountable our challenges may seem, God is always capable of intervening and delivering us from harm.

A Lesson for Today

In times of crisis, let us learn from Hezekiah’s example and prioritize God’s greatness over our problems. By doing so, we can tap into God’s limitless power and experience His deliverance in our lives. Remember, it’s not about what we can do, but about what God can do when we put our trust in Him.
