Victory Over Temptation: The Power of Spiritual Breathing
Living a life of spiritual victory is within reach when we surrender to the control of the Holy Spirit and face temptation head-on. But first, it’s essential to understand the difference between temptation and sin.
The Distinction Between Temptation and Sin
Temptation is the initial thought or impression to do something contrary to God’s will. These impressions come to everyone, even Jesus, and in themselves, they are not sinful. However, when we dwell on these thoughts and develop a strong desire, followed by the act of disobedience, that’s when temptation becomes sin.
The Key to Overcoming Temptation
So, how do we overcome temptation? The answer lies in recognizing our weakness and obeying the Holy Spirit’s instructions. When we don’t yield to temptation, we experience spiritual renewal and resume our walk with God.
The Danger of Carnality
But what happens when we cease to believe God’s promise of victory over temptation? We become carnal again, and that’s when defeat sets in. The good news is that we don’t have to live a life of defeat. As long as we continue to breathe spiritually, there’s no need to be carnal again.
Spiritual Breathing: The Path to Victory
So, what is spiritual breathing? It’s the process of exhaling spiritually by confessing our sins and inhaling by claiming God’s forgiveness and the fullness of the Holy Spirit. This process allows us to keep walking in the light, just as God is in the light.
Practical Application
How can we apply this principle to our daily lives? By consciously seeking to obey the Holy Spirit’s instructions revealed to us in His Word. Here’s a suggested prayer to get you started:
“Dear Father, I need You. I acknowledge that I have been directing my own life, resulting in sin against You. I thank You for forgiving my sins through Christ’s death on the cross for me. I invite Christ to take His rightful place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith. I thank You for directing my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit.”
Today’s Action Point
Will you commit to consciously seeking to obey the Holy Spirit’s instructions today? Remember, true prayer is an expression of faith, and spiritual breathing is the key to living a life of spiritual victory.
