A Chilling Realization
As the clock struck six on a chilly Wednesday evening, my wife Beverley reminded me that it was time to brave the notorious Dale Mabry traffic to make it to our mid-week church services on time. We hastily gathered our essentials – Bibles, sermon notes, and a sense of determination – and set off towards the worship center in Lutz.
A Smooth Ride, But Where Was Everyone?
Despite heavier-than-usual traffic, I drove cautiously, adhering to all the rules of the road. As we turned onto Exciting Idlewild Boulevard, we were running about five minutes behind schedule. My primary concern was securing a parking spot close to the entrance, given the nippy temperature. However, as we entered the parking lot, I was taken aback by the eerie silence. A mere eight cars dotted the usually bustling lot, and the building itself seemed shrouded in darkness, save for a few faint lights emanating from the pastor’s offices.
A Sinister Feeling Creeps In
A shiver ran down my spine as I wondered if the unthinkable had occurred – had the rapture finally arrived, leaving us behind? The thought sent a chill down my spine. We had always been diligent about our faith, attending services regularly and contributing to the church. What could have gone wrong?
The Mystery Deepens
Beverley rummaged through her Bible, producing a recent bulletin that confirmed the scheduled service. My anxiety spiked – where was everyone? I cautioned Beverley against disturbing Pastor Ken, thinking that if the service had indeed been cancelled, he would be enjoying a peaceful evening at home. But as she began calling other church members, only to encounter a series of unanswered calls, my apprehension grew.
The Wait Becomes Unbearable
With no answers forthcoming, we reluctantly headed back home, our minds racing with worst-case scenarios. The return journey was mercifully smoother, but my thoughts remained fixed on the possibility of being left behind. Finally, Beverley couldn’t resist calling Pastor Ken, and to our collective relief, he answered, confirming that the service had been cancelled due to the holidays. The rapture, it seemed, had not arrived after all.
A Valuable Lesson Learned
As we reflected on the experience, I realized that the brief, unsettling uncertainty had been a valuable reminder of the importance of eternal security. Knowing that our faith was secure, and that our “ticket” was already punched, brought a sense of comfort and reassurance. Sometimes, it takes a jolt of uncertainty to appreciate the beauty of our beliefs.
