Jesus, the Unwavering Companion: A Constant Friend in an Ever-Changing World

The Unwavering Companion

As I stood in church yesterday, surrounded by fellow believers, the familiar hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” echoed through the halls. The lyrics resonated deeply, reminding me of the unwavering companionship we share with our Savior.

A Shoulder to Bear Our Sorrows

The second verse, in particular, caught my attention: “Can we find a friend so faithful? Who will all our sorrow bear? Jesus knows our every weakness. Take it to the Lord in prayer.” These words paint a vivid picture of Jesus as a steadfast friend, willing to bear the weight of our sorrows and weaknesses.

A Constant in an Ever-Changing World

In a world where everything around us is in a state of flux, Jesus remains the one constant. Our bodies change, our locations shift, and the seasons come and go. Even those closest to us – friends and family – may leave or move on. Yet, Jesus remains steadfast, unchanging, and always available.

A Personal Reflection

As I reflected on these truths, my mind wandered back to a particularly difficult period in my life. The sudden loss of our five-month-old grandson to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome left an indelible mark on our family. The grief was overwhelming, and I often wondered what could be more painful than losing a loved one. But the Holy Spirit gently reminded me that if Jesus were to leave me, that would be truly unbearable. The thought of navigating life without His presence, guidance, and comfort was too much to fathom.

The Forever Friend

In that moment, I was filled with gratitude for Jesus, our forever friend. He is the One who listens to our every concern, receives our praise, and provides solace in times of emergency. He is the source of Life and Light, guiding us through the darkest of times. And, unlike everything else in this world, He does not change or leave us.

A Heartfelt Prayer

Father, I thank You for dwelling within me through the Holy Spirit. Thank You for the truth of Your Word, which promises that You will never leave us or forsake us. I am grateful for Your unwavering presence in my life. Amen.
