Giving Glory Where It’s Due
As we stand on the mountaintops of achievement, it’s essential to remember the ones who helped us get there. The young athlete’s heartfelt speech at the podium is a perfect example. With tears in his eyes, he thanked his coach, parents, and grandmother for their unwavering support. But what struck a chord was his final acknowledgment: “Most of all, I thank my Lord for endowing me with this talent.”
Humility in the Face of Success
This kind of humility is a rarity in today’s world. Many accomplished individuals would rather take solo credit for their achievements, forgetting the people and forces that contributed to their success. As Christians, we know better. We recognize that our talents and abilities are gifts from God, and it’s our duty to give Him the glory.
The Dangers of Pride
Pride and sin have one thing in common: they both have “I” in the middle. When we take credit for our accomplishments without acknowledging God’s role, we risk slipping into willful sin. The world may encourage us to bask in our own glory, but as believers, we must resist this temptation.
A Testimony of Faith
By giving God credit for our achievements, we’re not downplaying our own hard work and dedication. Instead, we’re acknowledging the divine spark that drives us to excel. This kind of humility is a powerful testimony to our faith, and it can inspire others to do the same.
A Heavenly Nod of Approval
When we give God the glory, we bring a smile to our Father’s face. As He says in Matthew 25:23, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” It’s a reminder that our accomplishments are not just about us, but about the One who created us to achieve great things.
A Prayer for Humility
Dear Lord, help me to stay grounded in humility as I strive for excellence. Keep me from the temptation of pride and self-importance, and remind me to always give You the glory for the talents and abilities You’ve given me. Amen.
