Finding Comfort in God’s Presence

Finding Comfort in Times of Trouble

When tragedy strikes, it can be overwhelming. The loss of a loved one, especially a child, can leave us feeling shattered and helpless. This was the case for Doug and Judy, who lost their only child, Timothy, in a senseless accident. As they stood at his graveside, I shared with them the comforting words of Psalm 27:5: “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock.”

The Promise of Comfort

In times of sorrow, our words often fall short. It’s only the holy, inspired Word of God that can bring true comfort and understanding. Jesus promised, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He also said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

The God of All Comfort

We serve a God who not only saves us but also comforts us in our darkest moments. The Holy Spirit empowers us to share the good news of an all-loving, ever-wise Savior. As we face our own troubles, we can look to the rock, Christ Jesus, and claim His wonderful promises for comfort and strength.

A Call to Action

Today, let us ask God to help us be sensitive to the hurts and heartaches of others. May we comfort them with the Word of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit. And when we face our own struggles, may we remember the promises of God and find comfort in His loving presence.
