Embracing the Unexpected
As we navigate the complexities of life, it’s easy to become complacent, stuck in our routines, and lose sight of what truly matters. But what if we were to approach each day with a sense of anticipation, a sense of expectation that something extraordinary could happen at any moment?
Living in the Present, Looking to the Future
The apostle Peter reminds us that “the day of the Lord will come like a thief” (2 Peter 3:10-11, NCV). This unexpected arrival should prompt us to ask ourselves a crucial question: what kind of people should we be? Peter’s response is clear: we should live holy lives, serving God, and eagerly awaiting the coming of the day of God (vv. 11-12).
The Dangers of Complacency
While hope for the future can inspire us, it can also lead to irresponsibility in the present. We must avoid falling into the trap of complacency, where we wait passively, rather than actively seeking God’s presence in our lives. We must not forget to look up, to search the skies, and to allow the Holy Spirit to interrupt our plans, leading us to worship and a deeper connection with Jesus.
A Call to Action
So, what kind of people should we be? We should be people who live with intention, who serve with purpose, and who eagerly await the coming of the Lord. We should be people who are not content with the status quo, but who instead seek to be transformed by the power of God. As we wait, let us wait with anticipation, with expectation, and with a heart that is open to the unexpected.
Reflecting on Our Priorities
As we reflect on our priorities, let us ask ourselves: are we truly living in the present, while looking to the future? Are we allowing the hope of eternity to shape our daily lives? Or are we simply going through the motions, waiting for something to happen, rather than actively seeking God’s presence? May we be inspired to live lives that honor God, and to eagerly await the coming of the day of God.
