Calm in the Storm: Finding Peace in Turbulent Times Through Faith

Finding Peace in Turbulent Times

When our children are upset, we instinctively know how to calm them down. We cradle them in our arms, whisper soothing words, and rock them gently until they relax. But what about when we’re the ones feeling anxious and overwhelmed? How do we quiet our own restless spirits?

The Dangers of Fretting

Fretting can lead to a downward spiral of self-centeredness, causing us to focus on our own problems rather than seeking God’s guidance. It’s easy to get caught up in our own worries and fears, but Jesus offers a different approach. He never worried or was anxious because He was focused on realizing God’s plans, not His own.

A Prescription for Anxiety

If you’re feeling anxious this morning, take a few moments to sit quietly and reflect on these words from Psalm 62:1&5: “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him.” Repeat these words slowly, letting their truth sink deep into your heart. Imagine yourself sitting on God’s lap, your head resting on His shoulder, as He whispers words of comfort and reassurance.

The Power of Visualization

As you visualize God’s loving presence, hear Him saying, “I am with you. I am mighty to save. I take great delight in you” (Zephaniah 3:17). Let His love calm your fears and soothe your anxious spirit. Take a deep breath and pray, “Father, thank you that you are with me now and I have nothing to worry about, for my salvation and my hope come from you. Amen.”

A New Perspective

When we focus on God’s presence and power, our worries and fears begin to fade away. We can trust that He is mighty to save and that He takes great delight in us. This realization brings peace and rest to our souls, calming our anxious spirits and guiding us back to His loving arms.

A Personal Relationship with Jesus

If you don’t know Jesus in a personal way, you can begin a relationship with Him today. Simply pray, telling Him that you believe He is who He says He is, and surrendering control of your will and life to Him. This can be communicated in a simple prayer, such as: “Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.”
