Trustworthy Confidence
As we navigate the complexities of life, it’s essential to anchor our trust in the right place. The recent news of rising consumer confidence is undoubtedly encouraging, but let’s not forget that this metric is still 25% lower than it was just a dozen years ago. Despite the economic upswing, people remain skeptical about the future.
A Shift in Focus
Rather than placing our confidence in fleeting economic indicators or human institutions, we’re reminded in Psalm 118:8, 9 to trust in the Lord above all else. History has shown us that confidence in man-made systems and individuals will ultimately lead to disappointment. On the other hand, those who put their trust in God will never be ashamed (Romans 10:11).
The Source of True Confidence
So, what does it mean to have confidence? It means to have trustworthiness. We often think we can manage on our own, but true confidence comes from dependence on God, not our own abilities or the economy. Paul’s confidence, for instance, wasn’t rooted in his intellect or speaking ability, but in the knowledge that the Holy Spirit was guiding him.
