Embracing the Gift of Abiding
In a world that’s constantly on the move, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget to prioritize what truly matters. Yet, as believers, we’re called to cultivate a deeper connection with our Creator, to abide in Him and allow His presence to guide us.
The Heart of Abiding
God created us, and He desires to spend quality time with us. It’s a fundamental aspect of our faith, one that’s often overlooked in the midst of our busy lives. As the apostle John so eloquently puts it, “By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit” (1 John 4:13). This gift of abiding is a treasure that’s available to us every day, not just on Sundays.
A Life of Purpose
One of my favorite hymns, “Take Time to Be Holy,” penned by William Longstaff, an English businessman with a passion for his faith, reminds us of the importance of prioritizing our relationship with God. Longstaff’s words echo the call to “abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.” This isn’t just a suggestion; it’s a necessity for living a life of purpose and direction.
The Power of Secret Prayer
As we navigate the twists and turns of life, it’s essential to carve out time for secret prayer, to withdraw from the world and seek guidance from our Lord. This is where true transformation takes place, where our paths are directed, and our souls are calmed. When we allow God to be our guide, we’re surprised by the fruitfulness of our labor, and our work becomes a reflection of His glory.
A Call to Commitment
So, I ask you, dear friend, will you commit to abiding in Jesus today? Will you make time for quiet reflection, for prayer, and for feasting on His Word? As you do, remember that God desires to be a part of every aspect of your life. He wants to guide your decisions, calm your fears, and empower your work.
A Challenge to Reflect
Take a moment to reflect on the significant decisions you’re facing. Are you intentionally seeking God’s wisdom in these areas? Bring these decisions before Him today, and renew your commitment to prioritize prayer and time in His Word. As you do, you’ll discover the joy of abiding in Him, and the transformative power of His presence in your life.
