The Power of Unmerited Favor
In the biblical account of Noah’s story, we find a fascinating contrast. On one hand, the Bible describes the rain that fell during the great flood as “mighty torrents.” On the other hand, it says that “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” This juxtaposition highlights the profound difference between God’s judgment and His grace.
Grace: The Unearned Gift
Contrary to popular belief, grace is not a reward for our good behavior or sinlessness. Rather, it is an unearned gift from God, made possible through the righteousness of Christ. In the case of Noah, his righteousness was not based on his own merits, but on his faith in God, which led him to receive God’s grace.
A Gift from God
The Bible makes it clear that our salvation is not something we can take credit for. As it says, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” This truth applies to each and every one of us, just like it did to Noah. Our righteousness can only come from God, and it begins with placing our faith in Jesus Christ.
Receiving God’s Righteousness
So, what does this mean for us? It means that we, like Noah, can experience God’s grace and righteousness, not because of our own efforts, but because of His love and mercy. By putting our faith in Jesus Christ, we can receive the gift of salvation and live a life that honors God.
Faith: The Key to Righteousness
Ultimately, it is our faith that connects us to God’s grace and enables us to receive His righteousness. As we trust in Jesus Christ, we can rest assured that our salvation is secure, and that we will stand righteous before God.
