Unlocking the Power of Intercession in Our Golden Years
As we age, our physical bodies may weaken, but our spiritual impact can continue to grow. In fact, our latter years can be a prime season for a powerful ministry of intercession.
A Vision from God
Just months before his passing, Dr. Bill Bright shared a remarkable vision with me and my husband. Despite his own failing health, he was overflowing with joy and purpose. God had spoken to him in a dream, revealing a vast army of bedridden and handicapped seniors who could be mobilized for intercession. These individuals, often overlooked and underutilized, could be praying for their loved ones, churches, communities, and the world.
A Personal Example
My brother Frank’s story is a testament to this vision. After being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, he became totally paralyzed, able to communicate only through blinking his eyes. Yet, as his physical strength waned, his spiritual vitality surged. He dedicated his remaining days to intercession, praying fervently for those around him.
The Transformative Power of Prayer
As E.M. Bounds so eloquently put it, “God shapes the world by prayer. The more praying there is in the world, the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil….” What if millions of seniors, freed from the burdens of daily responsibilities, could devote themselves to prayer and intercession?
A Call to Action
Will you join me in fulfilling Dr. Bright’s vision? Let us pray for a mighty army of seniors to rise up, using their golden years to shape the world through intercession. As 1 Timothy 1:2 reminds us, “First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority.”
A Prayer to Launch a Movement
Father, we ask that You would stir the hearts of seniors everywhere, calling them to a life of intercession. May they use their retirement years to pray for their families, churches, and the world. May their prayers bring transformation, hope, and redemption to a world in need. Amen.
