Starting Your Day with God: A Morning Devotional

Morning Moments with God

As we rise with the sun, our minds are flooded with hopes and desires for the day ahead. It’s a daily battle to quiet the noise and listen to the gentle whisper of God’s voice. C.S. Lewis aptly described this struggle, saying, “The moment you wake up each morning, your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job of each morning consists in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, letting that other, stronger, larger, quieter life come flowing in.”

A Psalmist’s Morning Routine

The psalmist offers a beautiful example of how to begin each day. In Psalm 5:3, he writes, “Every morning, I tell You what I need, and I wait for Your answer.” This simple yet profound practice sets the tone for a day lived in communion with God.

Waiting on God

Spend time waiting on God, sharing your needs and desires with Him. As you seek His guidance, remember that He is always watching over you, never slumbering or sleeping (Psalm 121:4). Even in the stillness of the night, His eyes are upon you.

Gratitude and Reflection

As the day draws to a close, take time to reflect on the good things God has done. Express gratitude for His blessings and question Him about the difficult moments. Seek His mercy and strength, knowing that He is always near.

Assurance in the Dark

As you drift off to sleep, carry this promise with you: “He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4). If you fall asleep while praying, don’t worry – what better place to rest than in the loving arms of your Father?

Embracing the Quiet

In the stillness of the morning, may you find solace in God’s presence. May His voice be the first you hear, guiding you through the chaos of the day ahead.
