The Unseen Battle
As I sat in my rocking chair, lost in thought, I caught a glimpse of what I thought was a tiny Martian, tottering on unsteady legs, clutching a strange object. But as I stood up for a closer look, I realized it was two-year-old Dale, our neighbor from a few doors down. He was holding a miniature hockey stick, and his awkward gait was due to the bulky hockey gear he was wearing – helmet, shoulder pads, knee pads, and gloves. The only giveaway to his tender age was the corner of his diaper peeking out from under his hockey pants.
Hockey Country
In Canada, hockey is a way of life. You can find kids playing hockey on any street, school yard, or ice arena. While there’s a legitimate concern about injuries, every precaution is taken to prevent them. Protective equipment is provided to ensure the safety of these young players. But there’s a more pressing concern – the spiritual warfare that’s waged every day.
The Armor of God
The Bible warns us about this unseen battle, urging us to “put on the whole armor of God” (Ephesians 6:13). It’s a call to arms, to equip ourselves and our children with the spiritual protection they need to face the enemy of their souls. Yet, we often neglect this vital aspect of our lives. We’re quick to respond when physical lives are in danger, but what about the eternal peril that faces every human being outside of Christ?
Protecting Our Children
I believe the Bible provides specific guidance on how to protect our children from spiritual harm. From the earliest stages of life, we need to provide them with the right gear to withstand the attacks of the enemy. As they grow older, the battles intensify, and they need our support and guidance to stay safe. Let’s not forget to give our children the spiritual armor they need to face the challenges of life.
The Whole Armor of God
The Bible reminds us to “take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day” (Ephesians 6:13). This includes the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, and the Word of God. Let’s take heed of this warning and equip ourselves and our children with the spiritual protection they need to thrive in a world filled with danger.
