The Joy of Returning to Our Heavenly Father
As we reflect on our journey with God, we often find ourselves straying from the path of obedience. We may say we’ll follow Him, but our actions tell a different story. Or, we might initially resist His call, only to later come around. Whatever the case, our Heavenly Father stands ready to welcome us back with open arms.
A Lesson from the Prodigal Son
Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son teaches us about the importance of responding to God’s call. One son promised to obey but failed to follow through, while the other refused at first but eventually came around. God’s grace allows us to reassess our hasty or insincere responses and return to joyful obedience.
A Child’s Exuberance
During our church services, the children return to the sanctuary after their Bible study, eager to rejoin their parents. One Sunday, a young boy named Johnny burst into the room, shouting “DAD, I’M BACK!” The entire congregation smiled at the heartwarming reunion. It’s a powerful reminder of our own relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Fear and Stubbornness
Sometimes, we hesitate to obey God because we’re unsure of what it might entail. At other times, we simply want our own way. But our Father waits patiently, ready to envelop us in His loving arms. Like Johnny’s dad, He longs to hear our joyful cry, “Dad, I’m back!”
A Prayer of Thanksgiving
Father, thank you for your loving grace and welcoming arms. Help me turn back to you more quickly each time I stray. May I always remember that you’re waiting for me, ready to gather me into your loving embrace.
A Challenge to Reflect
When you find yourself straying from God’s path, what is it you most desire from Him? Take a moment to thank Him for that gift. As you do, remember that He’s always waiting to welcome you back with open arms.
