Nourishing Our Souls
As we embark on our journey to a healthier lifestyle, many of us face a daunting obstacle: giving up our favorite foods. For me, bread is a culinary delight that’s hard to resist. But what if I told you there’s a different kind of bread that can satisfy our deepest cravings?
The Bread of Heaven
In John 6:35, Jesus declares, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry…” These words echo in my mind as I struggle to resist the allure of freshly baked sourdough. But I’ve come to realize that my longing for bread pales in comparison to my desire for a deeper connection with Christ.
A Spiritual Feast
Unlike fad diets that restrict our food choices, feeding on the Bread of Life has no limitations. By incorporating small, meaningful moments with God into our daily routine, we can nourish our souls and experience spiritual growth. This might involve reading a few verses, sitting in quiet contemplation, or praying for ourselves and others.
Cultivating a Deeper Hunger
As we make time for these spiritual “meals,” we’ll find ourselves craving more of God’s presence in our lives. The aroma of Christ will become more enticing than the fragrance of freshly baked bread, drawing us closer to His heart. So, I ask myself: do I yearn for the Bread of Heaven as much as I do for a warm, crusty loaf?
Feasting on God’s Word
Regularly feeding on the Bread of Life has transformed my prayer life. I’ve found solace in the words of William Williams’ hymn, “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah,” and the traditional Lord’s Prayer. Resources like Penny Cooke’s devotional, “Pursuing Prayer,” have also guided me on my journey.
A Call to Spiritual Health
As I reflect on my own spiritual diet, I’m reminded of the importance of prioritizing my relationship with God. I pray that I may crave all that He offers me, that I may enjoy spiritual health and vitality. How about you? How do you regularly feed on the Bread of Life, and what fruits have you seen in your life as a result?
